Due to demand, the Portchester Sailing Club Angling Section, this year organised the first Junior Open Competition to coincide with the well known Senior open later this year.
The venue was the Castle foreshore, and with the weather very much in our favour, the 13 participants took up their positions for a 12.00pm start.
It was expected, that the days main catch would be mostly small shoal Bass, and within 5 minutes from the start the fish were coming in. With plenty of Stewards on hand, all fish were measured and returned alive at the point of capture.
As the day wore on it was clear that the result for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd was going to be very close, and the closing half hour or so proved to be a very competitive.
After 5 hours in the hot sun, the comp was brought to a close, the result cards were collected and weights counted whilst the juniors and families made their way back to the Clubhouse lawn for the prize giving.
Without the help from local tackle dealers, it would have been difficult to get the Competition up and running, and our thanks go to Allan’s Marine, Dave’s Tackle, Rovers Tackle, and Andy’s Baits, for their kind donations and help.
