Little Boats (Model Yacht Sailing)

Welcome to the Portchester Sailing club Little boat Section. This is a group of sailors who get their sailing fix from radio control boats when the main sailing season is over. The section was born and developed around the Dragon Force 65 sailing boat, but is not exclusive and welcomes anyone with an RC yacht to get on the water in the off season or when ever you can.

The Dragon Force boats were chosen due their reasonable cost and ease of build, transport and maintenance. They are also well supported locally and across the UK. Other local clubs sailing the DF 65 include Mengham Rythe SC, Royal Southampton Yacht Club and Lymington Town sailing Club. They are also raced at Gosport model sailing club and on canoe lake in Southsea by Portsmouth Model Yacht Racing Club.

We have scheduled races once a fortnight to coincide with HW. These are primarily lunchtimes but vary from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. The intention is to leave the decision of either Saturday or Sunday race until the Thursday night when we can choose the more favourite sailing conditions over the weekend.

If you fancy joining in or would like to try this type of sailing, please come and join us at any meeting or email Chris at radiosailing@portchestersc.org. The racing is competitive and the DF 65 fleet race under class rules making for close match racing at a reasonable cost. Portchester Sailing club is affiliated to the MYA. We also have a few marble head and IOM class boat owners who come and join in.
